Canada Day release challenge 2010
gypsysmom at 1:17 pm on Saturday, August 20, 2011

The theme in 2010 was children’s literature.  Due to the changes on the BookCrossing site there were fewer releases in 2010, only 475, but 141 of them were children’s literature.  We also had two special challenges.  One was to send books to Prime Minister Harper a la Yann Martel.  The other was a Sweepstakes.  Six books were sent to the Prime Minister but no responses have been received yet and no JE’s by the PM or anyone on his behalf.  Sixteen people participated in the sweepstakes and klaradyn from South Africa was the lucky winner.

Pooker3 won the prize for releasing the most books in Canada, 115.

NothernLights won the prize for releasing the most books outside of Canada, 60.

varykino won the prize for the best release location for her release of When the boys came marching home.

AwesomeAud won the prize for the best release to the PM for her release of Letters from Wingfield Farm.

rureading released the most children’s books, 35, and won a prize for that accomplishment.

starrdust was randomly chosen to win a prize from among the Canadian releasers and tabbycatowner was the random winner for non-Canadians.

Tarna and Ibis3 received special prizes; Tarna had to do her releasing from a library computer when her home computer broke down and Ibis3 came up with the idea for the releases to the Prime Minister and the Sweepstakes in addition to hosting the charts and challenge page on her website.

boutin-maloneya won the prize for best catch for Down to Earth: The Crisis in Canadian Farming.

Thanks to everyone who participated.
